Atlantis

Atlantis 32.0

A fully portable general-purpose feature-rich word processor

Atlantis is a general-purpose word processor, intended primarily for writers, students and freelancers. Although it offers almost all the features you can find in other programs of its kind, Atlantis is much lighter and cheaper. In this sense, one of its main advantages is that it is fully portable, i.e. you can copy it to a USB stick and take it with you everywhere.

The interface of Atlantis reminds us of older word processors, perhaps because its menus are cluttered with buttons. However, there is the possibility to customize it to your liking, in two different styles. The Document Open window stands out, allowing you to preview documents comfortably before opening them.

As mentioned above, from the features point of view, Atlantis allows many options when formatting documents and texts. As in most word processors, you can vary the font formatting, including its color, size and style. Similarly, you can choose a different paragraph style to improve readability. The program even allows you to create more complex formats including columns, as well as work in separate sections.

Another advantage is related to the way documents are managed, which includes the creation of automatic backup files. One feature that seems to be missing is version and track control, which is a real impediment in terms of collaboration.

In addition, the processor supports importing and exporting multiple document formats, which makes it compatible with other office suites. The ability to compress and encrypt files from within Atlantis is also very convenient. Finally, we appreciate the opportunity to create e-books without much hassle. Unfortunately, importing this type of file is not supported.

To summarize, Atlantis is ideal for students and freelance writers, not so much for large companies that rely on teamwork. It is lightweight and affordable, it is feature-rich, and you can take it with you almost anywhere you go. Fortunately, there is a trial version with no feature limitations. If you are pleased with this product, you may want to consider purchasing the Standard or Ultimate version.
